October 6, 2023

It was great to meet the families able to stop by on Thursday for our “Meet the Teacher” open house.  There will be another opportunity to meet in November for student-led conferences (more information will follow).  Our reading focus this week was responding to books by explaining whether the book was fiction or non-fiction with supporting reasons.  In writing, students wrote sentences to recount about school in September.  We also learned media is a way to send a message to many people through writing, speech, or images.  In math, we represented numbers in different ways:  using words, pictures, numbers, and expanded form.  We observed place value patterns when we add by 10 and 100, as well as ordered numbers from least to greatest.  In social studies, we learned the three main land regions Ontario has:  different soil, climate, and vegetation.  In health, we reviewed how to use the internet safely.  In art, we used different lines and shapes, as well as warm and cool colours, to create abstract art inspired by the artist, Wassily Kandinsky.
